Gee & Co Ltd are committed to the use of ecological construction methods. Traditional vernacular building materials are by design biodegradable or can be reused. Currently modern materials are generally as far removed from this philosophy as possible. New construction accounts for 24% of global raw materials removed from the earth. In addition, the extraction, processing, transport and installation of materials associated with modern construction consume large quantities of energy and water. A huge proportion of global building products are synthetic, causing increasing levels of CO2 emissions and pollution during manufacture, and are non recyclable, therefore adding substantially to landfill.
Historically buildings were designed and constructed locally from materials to hand and therefor environmentally friendly. Subsequently the raw materials; stone, lime (produced from limestone) and timber are naturally ecological. Alongside traditional materials Gee & Co Ltd have a wide knowledge of current ecological building products and their application for a sustainable future. |
