A large proportion of our work consists of the removal of cementitious & gypsum based mortars from buildings not designed for its use. Unfortunately over the last 100 years it has been widely used on historical solid ‘Mono’ wall construction when broadly the main mortar binder is permeable natural lime or earth & clay fundamental to the design and integrity of the original vernacular construction.
Gee and Co Ltd Building conservation provide historical mortar analysis for the correct reproduction of materials that will be comparable in colour and importantly strength of binder. We have a wide experience in the correct application of all natural lime mortars, earth, clay, natural breathable roman cements and permeable natural paints in the use of repointing, plastering and traditional painting. Our work also includes new and ecological tested conservation systems including the specification and installation of limecrete flooring and the use of ecological and sustainable plasterboard alternatives such as wood fibre board, wood wool board and traditional split and riven laths.
